SMIC with UNIDO on Industry 4.0 in Bosnia and Herzegovina

SMIC and UNIDO AI Innovation and Digital Transformation have had the pleasure of hosting two focus groups to explore the evolving landscape of Industry 4.0 adoption and support in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

💡 The first session brought together small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from across the country to discuss:
• Awareness levels and perceptions of Industry 4.0 across sectors
• Key barriers SMEs face in digital transformation
• Opportunities for growth through advanced technologies
• The role of support organizations and policymakers in enabling change

🤝 The second session convened representatives from business support organizations (BSOs), academia, and research institutions to explore how digitalization, Industry 4.0, and the circular economy can strengthen industrial transformation in the Western Balkans.

Our discussions focused on:
• How support institutions can help SMEs embrace digital and sustainable practices
• Challenges in knowledge transfer and research-to-industry linkages
• Opportunities for collaboration, training, and policy development
• Building tailored support programs for innovation and circular practices
• Networking across the ecosystem to advance the green transition

Both sessions demonstrated expertise and commitment of participants – from manufacturers to researchers – contributing valuable insights into how digitalization is reshaping industry and innovation in the Western Balkans.
